Harry Potter Party - How to Throw One That Kids Will Love!
Theme parties have always been a hit with kids. With the right theme, you can have a party they will remember forever. This article tells you the secrets to throwing an unforgettable Harry Potter party.
Of course, you have to start with authentic-looking invitations. If you like to do things yourself, you can download images, such as the Hogwarts seal, to print on your own invitations. Don't forget to do include the secret password to open the door to your house! Make sure it is fun and magic sounding.
As the kids arrive, be sure to introduce them to the adults in charge, including, of course, Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonegal. There are lots of great costumes available that will delight your guests. One fun activity you can do while waiting for everyone to arrive is to pass around bowls of Berie Bott's every flavor bean, one flavor at a time, and have the kids guess which flavor they are trying. Some will just laugh at the strange flavors, while others will really get in to it.
Once everyone has arrived, it will be time to sort everyone into one of the four houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw. How to do that? With the sorting hat, of course! Hide a cell phone underneath it, and have someone in a different room tell each child their assignment. You'll have them guessing for a long time how you got the hat to talk. By the way, keep in mind that probably no one will want to be in Slytherin, so you may want to leave that house out.
Things will really get fun with the different Hogwarts classes. For example, Professor Dumbledore can teach divination with a Magic 8 Ball. The kids can ask questions, then see what the future holds with the ball. At the end of the lesson, Dumbledore can give each child a balloon with a fortune inside. Have the children pop their balloons by sitting on them to get their fortunes out. The fortunes inside are sure to generate eager discussion about whether they will come true!
After divination, it's time for potions and herbology with Professor McGonegal. Everyone will love making their own Felix Felicis with pop rocks, because the potion really fizzles. This will put everyone in a great mood, ready for Veritaserum. The kids will love the reaction when they mix the baking soda and vinegar. Make sure you tell them not to drink it, though. These ideas are, of course, just the start to planning the ultimate Harry Potter party.
For the last class, why not teach Defense Against the Dark Arts? You can hang up a scary-looking pinata and have the kids defend themselves by swatting at it. Everyone loves having a pinata at a children's birthday party, and this is a great way to make it Harry Potter themed.
Of course, no birthday party is complete, though, without birthday cake. Have your local bakery or grocery store make a fun Harry Potter themed cake, and be sure to serve it with Harry Potter themed paper plates and cups. Tell everyone that the cake is from the Honey Dukes Sweet Shoppe.
